Mercy Housing Northwest

Mercy Housing Northwest owns and operates 52 properties throughout Washington, Oregon, and Idaho, providing over 5,000 families and seniors with an affordable place to call home. We believe a person’s lack of financial resources should not determine their ability to access high-quality, stable, affordable housing. Beyond housing, we provide onsite resident services that focus on five key program areas – housing stability, health and wellness, community engagement, education, and financial well-being. Providing these critical programs right where residents live ensures that home is a platform for kids to thrive in school, for families to improve their financial stability, and for residents to have greater knowledge and access to improve their health and wellness. When combined with the stability and pride of having a place to call home, these services help Mercy Housing Northwest residents work toward self-sufficiency and break the cycle of poverty.

Mercy Housing is creating stable, vibrant and healthy communities for its residents. We build homes, transform lives and help families, individuals and seniors become self-sufficient by providing permanent housing with supportive services for our families. We’ve helped over 100 families build and purchase their own homes.

Our Roots

Mercy Housing Northwest is grounded in the commitment of our five founding communities to address the housing needs of low-income individuals and families. Representatives of the five communities (Sisters of St. Joseph of Peace, Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary, Sisters of Providence, Dominican Sisters of Tacoma and Dominican Sisters of Adrian) sit on Mercy Housing Northwest’s Board of Directors and keep the organization focused on its mission and values.

Resident Services

Providing a home that families and individuals can afford is a valuable service. Some households need more. And we provide it. We call this coordination of housing and services “Service-Enriched Housing.”

What does Resident Services or Service-Enriched housing mean?

After school tutoring & homework club for students
Exercise, health and wellness opportunities
Nutrition workshops and healthy cooking classes
Tax prep and EITC assistance
Emergency food assistance
ESL & employment coaching

The goal of Service-Enriched Housing is to help families achieve stability and then to enhance that stability. It is stability that can be the greatest preventative measure to help families avoid homelessness. We accomplish this through dedicated and highly-motivated staff, extensive community partnerships, and a focus on programs that contribute to resident success and outcomes that can be measured.

U.S. Bank Foundation grant fuels local impact

With support from a $30,000 U.S. Bank Foundation grant, we are deepening our impact in support of our Housing Stability for Low-Income Families in Pierce County initiative. This one-year grant will fund eviction-prevention services for 570 residents across six affordable housing communities. It includes personalized outreach, rental assistance navigation, lease education, and proactive financial stability
